Hi, I am Felipe Elia!

I’m Brazilian, almost 40 years old, married, and father of a boy. I was born in Rio de Janeiro, but since 2012 I live in a city called Curitiba.

I currently work as Associate Director of Platform Engineering at 10up, where I am one of the technical responsible for the ElasticPress and SiteWatch products, whose customers include names like Microsoft, GitHub, Intercom, Starbucks, and T-Mobile. I joined the company in February 2020, and had one promotion per year, being called to be part of the leadership team in 2023.

I am an advocate of remote work, having started this way of working in 2010, but being completely remote since 2012. Since 2018, most of my professional experience has been with the international market.

Knowledge must be shared

I am self-taught in several of my areas of knowledge. Because I have learned so much from the knowledge shared by other people online or at in-person events, whenever I can I share the little knowledge I have.

I like writing and giving talks. I had a YouTube channel about WordPress, gave talks at local events (meetups and Google Business Group), several years at WordCamp SP, and international events, such as WP Engine DE{CODE).

WordPress

WordPress has been my main focus since 2014. When I found myself in this wonderful community, I got so excited that I tried to help with everything I could.

Currently, due to time constraints, I am no longer as active in the community as I was, but I am still a Locale Manager and Forum moderator in the Brazilian community and an author at br.wordpress.org/news. I created some plugins, and am a frequent core and meta contributor. I was an organizer for the Curitiba WP community. You can see more details on my WordPress.org profile.

I also was a Yoast Care recipient in 2020.

Graduation and certificates

After high school, I studied IT at UERJ, but I didn’t graduate. Years later, already working with programming, I graduated in Marketing from Unicesumar. Due to an excellent grade in ENADE, they gave me a 100% scholarship for postgraduate studies in Digital Marketing. My course conclusion work was on The importance of free and open-source programs for Digital Marketing.

Since February 2024 I have been a Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) and Certified Scrum Product Owner® (CSPO®) by ScumAlliance.

More of my personal life

Outside of work, I’m always learning new things and, in my sparse free time, I dedicate myself to my nerdiness: I love books, cinema, comics, and, especially, video games. All this and videos of carpentry and construction.

I was a violinist in some orchestras many years ago, I studied acoustic guitar and nowadays I take drawing classes in the same class as my son.

I’m quite skeptical, but perhaps due to the influence of work, I believe in some organization behind everything. In the search to understand this organization and explore the different aspects of life, I even studied tarot. I am in favor of minorities and abortion.
